Celebrating Success: Herts Ability Supports Learning Disability Week

June 12, 2025

Every June, we come together to celebrate Learning Disability Week (16th-22nd) - a time to amplify the voices, talents, and achievements of people with learning disabilities.

This year’s theme, “Do you see me?”, encourages us all to recognise contributions, challenge stereotypes, and break down the barriers that people with learning disabilities face every day.

At Herts Ability, we see you - and we’re here to support, empower, and cheer on every step of your journey.

A Triumph to Remember: Kayleigh’s Inspiring Journey

We’re incredibly proud to share the success story of Kayleigh, a determined young woman who recently passed her DVSA theory test with flying colours! With the support of our specialist team, Kayleigh tackled the challenge head-on and came out victorious - a true testament to her hard work, resilience, and the power of tailored support.

Her success is not just a personal victory but a shining example of what’s possible when people with learning disabilities are given the tools, time, and encouragement they need to thrive.

How Herts Ability Helps with the Theory Test

At Herts Ability Driving School, we offer a comprehensive support programme for learners with additional needs. Whether you're just starting out or need a bit of extra help understanding the Highway Code, we’re here for you every step of the way.

A Day to Remember: Lonsdale School Visits Herts Ability

We were thrilled to welcome ten amazing students from Lonsdale School to our Harlow Outreach centre for a truly unforgettable day. Lonsdale, a school that supports young people with physical and neurological impairments, brought a group of enthusiastic students - each with unique challenges and aspirations. What a day it was!

With the help of our fantastic team - Mark, Simon, James, Linda, and CEO Sean - students had the chance to drive for the very first time on our private off-road track. Some used conventional controls, others tried adapted systems, and two incredible students even drove from their wheelchairs in a specially adapted Mercedes-Benz!

The smiles, excitement, and confidence radiating from these young drivers was nothing short of inspiring.

Learning with Laughter: Our Theory Test Workshop

In between driving sessions, students joined a fun and engaging theory test workshop led by our Lead Assessor, James. With interactive activities, hazard perception games, and lots of laughs, the students got to grips with the rules of the road while building essential skills for future success.

“All of the students approached the theory test with enthusiasm and a desire to learn,” said James. “It was amazing to see how much progress they made in such a short time. We’re excited to see what the future holds for them!”

Each student received a certificate of achievement - a proud reminder of a day full of firsts, fun, and newfound confidence.

Driving Towards Inclusion

Inspired by their day with us, several Lonsdale students have already booked further assessments with Herts Ability. We couldn’t be more excited to continue supporting them on their driving journeys.

Our mission is simple: make driving accessible, inclusive, and empowering for all!

From individual learners like Kayleigh to school groups like Lonsdale, every person who comes through our doors deserves the chance to succeed - and at Herts Ability, we’re here to make that happen!

Join us this Learning Disability Week in celebrating these incredible achievements - and help us spread the message: everyone deserves the chance to be seen, heard, and supported!
