Celebrating Occupational Therapy Week 2025
Dates: 3-9 November 2025
Theme: “Prevention and Early Intervention”
Campaign goal: To highlight the value of occupational therapy in preventing health and care crises, and promoting a healthier, more independent future.
What is OT Week?
Every November, Occupational Therapy (OT) Week shines a well-deserved spotlight on the life-changing work of occupational therapists across the UK. This year, from 3-9 November 2025, the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) is leading the national campaign with the inspiring theme “Prevention and Early Intervention.”
This theme focuses on how occupational therapists can make a difference before health issues escalate - helping people stay well for longer, maintain their independence, and live life to the fullest.
Occupational therapists (OTs) play a unique and vital role in the healthcare system, blending practical support with compassion, creativity, and clinical expertise. They work with people of all ages to help them participate in the activities that matter most - whether that’s getting dressed, preparing meals, working, or even driving safely.
Why Prevention and Early Intervention Matter
When challenges arise - whether through illness, injury, or disability - OTs are often among the first professionals to step in and make a tangible difference. Their early intervention can prevent a minor difficulty from becoming a crisis.
By identifying barriers early and introducing practical solutions, OTs:
- Help individuals remain independent and safe at home
- Reduce hospital admissions and the need for long-term care
- Support mental health and well-being through purposeful activity
- Enable people to stay connected with their communities and families
At Herts Ability, this approach is at the heart of everything we do. Our dedicated occupational therapists work with clients to ensure they have the tools, confidence, and strategies to lead fulfilling, active lives - for as long as possible.
Celebrating Our Amazing Team
We are thrilled to celebrate #OTWeek2025 by shining a light on our incredible occupational therapy team: Ayo, Linda, Jane, Sarah, Jonathan, and Charis.
These talented professionals make a profound difference to the lives of our clients every single day. Their compassion, expertise, and creativity enable people to overcome challenges, regain independence, and rediscover confidence.
Meet Our Brilliant Occupational Therapists: Ayo & Sarah!
This week, we’re delighted to introduce two of our amazing team members, Ayo and Sarah, who share their experiences and passion for their profession.
🗣 Ayo says:
“I love the fact that as an Occupational Therapist I am able to work with a variety of clients from all different ages and all different walks of life. I love how occupational therapy gives life to years, helping people to maintain their independence and continue to do activities.”
🗣 Sarah adds:
“I love being an OT as I enjoy helping whomever I am working with to maximise their potential and quality of life. OTs also help look at alternative forms of mobility for all ages using adaptations and equipment to support independence.”
Their words beautifully capture the essence of what it means to be an OT - empowering people to live life their way.
The Vital Role of Occupational Therapy
While many people associate OTs with rehabilitation after illness or injury, their work goes far beyond recovery. At Herts Ability, our OTs support individuals through every stage of life - from helping someone regain confidence after a stroke to ensuring safe mobility through driving assessments and adaptive equipment.
Occupational deprivation - the inability to engage in meaningful activities - can have serious impacts on both physical and mental health. That’s why occupational therapy is so vital. By enabling people to participate in daily activities, OTs help reduce isolation, boost self-esteem, and promote overall well-being.
And yes - driving is an important occupation! It provides independence, freedom, and social connection. Our OTs play a key role in ensuring that people can drive safely and confidently for as long as possible, using assessments, advice, and adaptive solutions tailored to each individual’s needs.
